Construction Challenges

We faced two major challenges in the execution of FYIP works

I.                                                             Construction of 16” and 24” Concrete Coated pipelines in a Land Locked Swamp ROW with zero access for a Lay Barge posed the first challenge.

We dismantled the Lay Barges and assembled all Construction hardware in 6 x 40’ containers.  These were assembled by Swamp Cranes on a sand filled island.  The Lines are now completed.

ii.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        The second challenge is from the by-pass.  The Two Gas pipelines are routed to by-pass Sokebolou Community crossing two small Creeks that provide the only access to the Community.  The terrain is entirely Mangrove Swamp and the Creeks are too small for a Lay Barge.  Once again the containerized Lay Ramp were deployed and the entire 1.03km section fabricated.  Floating and Sinking was done in one day and thus avoid obstructing the Community in any way. To ensure free stress profiles for the creek crossings dredging of 450m channel 9m wide x 6m deep was undertaken with our Grab Dredger.
